Connect Group PLC annual community football tournament is a great success

Monday 6th October 2014

Sunday 28 September saw day of action and healthy competition as 28 teams from across the Group took part in the annual community football tournament, the biggest event yet.

This year teams were playing for the Alan Humphrey trophy in memory of a former Smiths News colleague, who sadly passed away at the beginning of the year. The tournament was hosted by Jonathan Bunting again, and was officially opened with 30 seconds of applause.

The tournament is now in its second year, with teams once again going head to head for a chance to be crowned champions. Last year’s winners were there to defend their title, but the trophy went to their deserving Liverpool colleagues.

There was also an appearance from special guest Charlotte Lade, a female football freestyler, who was invited to the tournament as an additional incentive for more females to sign up. Charlotte is the official skills ambassador for Tottenham Hotspur FC and was happy to teach the players some of her tricks.
There was an awards ceremony after the tournament, and the winning Liverpool team was presented with the Alan Humphrey trophy.
