Connect Group targets energy reduction

Monday 21st December 2015

Connect Group PLC has targeted a 2% energy reduction in response to the Governments’ new Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).

The scheme requires larger companies to report on their energy emissions and identify areas for improvement.

‘’The scheme required us to record our total energy consumption and conduct energy audits across the Group,’ explained Matt Watson from the Group Services team. ‘The scope ranged from the electricity at our warehouses to the diesel we use when delivering parcels.’

‘It’s a huge task to measure in this detail, but it’s no longer optional – there are large fines for non-compliance,’ said Matt.  The good news is that a variety of opportunities were identified – including  new lighting controls, reducing the fuel used to deliver parcels, new energy meters and replacing boilers.

‘We’re looking further into all these ideas so that the Group can continue to reduce its Carbon Footprint.  We’ve made big strides over recent years and we’re targeting to reduce our carbon footprint by at least a further 2% each year.’
