Employee completes Paris marathon for charity

Thursday 11th April 2013

Eugene Howson, a Distribution Manager for wholesaler Smiths News completed the Paris Marathon in an amazing 3 hours 27 minutes and 21 seconds last weekend.

As well as finishing the 26 mile race in an impressive time, Eugene raised £1,481 for the Stroke Association, a charity which is close to his heart.

In preparation for the big event, Eugene ran a number of half marathons; for extra practice he ‘ran home’ from his workplace, which is based on Banbury Avenue, Slough Industrial Estate to his home in Reading. This was after working a whole shift one Friday evening.

Speaking about his experience last weekend Eugene said:

“I did it! Taking part in the Paris Marathon was a brilliant experience, and we had the luck of good weather. It was my first marathon abroad and there was great camaraderie amongst the runners taking part from different countries.”

“Although this was a personal challenge, it also provided me with a chance to raise money for the Stroke Association, who I believe do a superb job in their campaign to improve stroke care and support people so they can make the best recovery possible. I would also like to say a personal thank you to all of my colleagues who have helped me organise fundraising events and supported me in the countdown to the Paris event, they have been fantastic!”
