Connect Group helps deliver award-winning Stickability programme at Swindon school

Children from Haydon Wick Primary school were treated to a special feature day of ‘Stickability’ yesterday, a double award-winning literacy programme delivered in partnership with the Bath Rugby Foundation.

Volunteers from Connect Group and its Trowbridge-based subsidiary The Consortium have been helping with the programme for the last three years, providing around 400 hours of support each year.

The bespoke scheme is based on a sticker-reward system and combines classroom-based literacy sessions with outdoor tag rugby activities. The aim is to give young children the opportunities and support to develop learning skills and confidence, with life-long impact.

The partnership means a lot to Connect Group as Emma Lucas, Head of Organisation Development explains, “We have formed a fantastic relationship with the Foundation. By investing in Stickability, we have played a part in encouraging young children to improve their literacy skills as well as building confidence in the classroom. In addition, the scheme has given our employees the opportunity to use our Company volunteering policy and I’m so proud of the support they have provided.”

As well as the Foundation coaches and volunteers, the day also included a guest appearance from Bath Rugby player Dave Attwood, who was a big hit with the children!

Nicola Black, Connect Group volunteer, commented: “It has been a privilege to be a part of Stickability. Children know so much more than they believe they do and sometimes just the courage to put up their hand and go for it! I feel so proud of the children I have had the pleasure of meeting and seeing them blossom week on week is fantastic.”

Since its launch in April 2013, the programme has benefitted nearly 2500 children across primary schools in the Bath, Wiltshire and North Somerset areas, with schools lined up in Swindon, Melksham and Calne over the coming months.
