Smiths News PLC races the dragon for charity!

Monday 10th June 2013

Colleagues from across the Smiths News Group took part in the annual Dragon Boat Race Regatta in Worcester last month to raise money for charity.

The 22 teams from Worcester, Swindon and Trowbridge fought keenly against one another, but in the end it was Worcester team ‘Blazing Paddles’ that came out on top, beating all of their opponents.

As well as raising money for their chosen charities, the winning teams also received trophies for their efforts, and all of the teams enjoyed the event so much that they are keen to take part in next year’s race.

Jane Kingman from The Consortium said: “What a brilliant, fun day! No one from our crew had ever been on a Dragon Boat before, so it took a couple of races to get our technique just right. We ended the day slightly soggy, slightly pink, and with smiles on our faces. We will definitely be looking forward to the regatta again next year. “

Vicky Wheeldon from Instore said: “We had a fabulous day and hope to do it again next year. We were all really touched to win the trophy for the most inspirational team.”

Laura Morris from Smiths News Group said: “The day was really enjoyable. Despite not having any water practice, the crew did really well and improved with every race, even winning one of their heats!! I’m really looking forward to next year!!”

The regatta was organised by Smiths News as part of the Group’s Community Link-Up programme.
