Smiths News PLC raises over £300,000 for charities

Wednesday 22nd January 2014

Smiths News PLC is delighted to announce that they have raised an astonishing £305,650.74 for local and national charities, as part of their Group-wide community programme.

The total is an accumulation of fundraising and charity events over the last three years, including almost £45,000 donated via the company’s workplace giving schemes. In 2012, the company raised £102,359 on a similar community programme and £72,000 the year before that, smashing their fundraising targets each time.

Last year’s programme, Community Link-Up, focused on three key areas – Charity Fundraising, Community Volunteering and Colleague Link-Up. Staff were encouraged to get involved in their local communities and organise fundraising activities and events, and raised almost £87,000.

Major events that staff got involved in included a Group-wide football tournament held in Swindon, with almost 200 members of staff taking part. And in September, 16 employees from across the Group cycled 235 miles from Paris to Swindon, raising £25,626.74 collectively for their chosen charities.

Mark Cashmore, Group Chief Executive of Smiths News PLC, commented:

“Raising this amount of money is an outstanding achievement and it is a credit to everyone who took part in our community programme. We have had fantastic commitment from our staff and as a result, we have been able to support over 45 charities this year.”

The company will be recognising all the hard work and commitment from their staff by presenting a number of awards in February.
