Smiths News PLC wins prestigious business award

Smiths News PLC, the UK’s largest newspaper, magazine and book distributor has won the prestigious West of England Business of the Year Award – the region’s impressive business accolade.

Group Chief Executive, Mark Cashmore was delighted to accept the award at the celebratory award ceremony which was held at the Bristol Marriott Hotel last week. During the presentation, Mark Cashmore, Group Chief Executive of Smiths News said:

“It is a great honour to be recognised for our progress and contribution to the region. The award is an accolade for the business and endorsement of the skill and dedication of our staff across the Group.”

This award recognises the operational excellence and consistent strategic progress of Smiths News PLC across the UK, in addition to its strength in and contribution to the West of England.

Smiths News PLC beat five other South-West businesses who were competing for the award in the category for companies turning over more than £25m a year or with over 100 employees.

Nick Morgan, a partner of the awards hosts PwC and chair of the judges for the larger turnover category said:

“Smiths News PLC impressed the judging panel with their sustained profit growth, diversification of the business and the strength of its management and I was delighted to present them with the winner’s trophy.”

The West of England Business awards, which are sponsored by PwC have been held for the past 23 years and have become widely acknowledged as the premier business awards in the region. Previous winners of the award include successful and innovative businesses such as Dyson, MITIE and Renishaw.
