Stockport ladies raise over £800 for Cancer Research UK

Thursday 23rd June 2016

Smiths News’ Stockport ladies took on their local Race for Life and smashed their fundraising target.

The team of colleagues and friends take part in the race each year, all donning the traditional pink clothing that is associated with the well-known run.

After completing the 5k race on Sunday 22 May, Administrator Wendy Ross reported that the weather had luckily been very kind to them – and that everyone had a ball!

“We are absolutely thrilled,” says Wendy. “This charity is extremely close to all our hearts here at Stockport and we did this in memory of treasured loved ones as well as those who continue to fight.”

The women, or ‘army’ as they call themselves, were: Louise Broadhurst and daughters Ellie and Aimee, Lynn Henshaw, Gemma Hurley, Wendy Ross, Sheila Rowbotham, Jo Johnson and daughter Kiera, Beth Price and Mia McCall.

Friends and family were at the finish line to cheer them on and Wendy says they can’t wait to enter again next year. And the weeks of fundraising paid off too – the ladies’ grand total came in at £879.00 for Cancer Research, a fantastic achievement and a credit to Smiths News Stockport.
